Vincent O’Sullivan

There’s a very interesting paradox at the heart of Hotere’s best work; he is the most important political painter we have and yet at the same time he is so attentive to aesthetic values

Vincent O’Sullivan is a novelist, poet, anthologist, playwright, short story writer, biographer, critic and editor.

Born and brought up in Auckland but having moved away in 1963, Vincent shares with Graeme Lay his nostalgia and impressions of the North Shore and Auckland as he completes eight weeks of his residency at the Michael King Writer’s Centre (at the time of the interview).

Vincent O’Sullivan also discusses his work on the biography of Ralph Hotere.
